Our glamping pods are getting a make-over

This past year, we’ve dedicated ourselves to building with cob, and we’re excited to share our progress with a couple of sneak peak photos before the big reveal later this year.

We’re proud to have received a gold award from Green Tourism, and we truly enjoy working with materials that have a minimal environmental impact. Our commitment to enhancing every aspect of our site means there are delightful new surprises for our guests with each season.

We’ve collaborated with an amazing team of talented artists and craftsmen. Our cob is crafted using locally sourced materials, including clay from our land, straw from our farm, and reclaimed roofing materials. We’ve even repurposed charred timbers from an old barn, along with stained glass, glass jars, and items salvaged from refuse yards. The stone we use is sourced from a nearby woodland in an old quarry and the results are magical.

What is a cob house?

A cob house is a type of sustainable building constructed using a mixture of natural materials, primarily clay, sand, straw, and water. This mixture, called “cob,” is mixed and then sculpted into walls, often directly onto a foundation. Cob houses are known for their thermal mass, meaning they can naturally regulate indoor temperatures by absorbing heat during the day and releasing it at night. This feature makes cob homes highly energy-efficient, reducing the need for artificial heating and cooling.

Why are we building Cob Glamping Pods at Out To Grass?

Cob homes are environmentally friendly since the materials used are abundant, non-toxic, and locally sourced. The construction process is labor-intensive but requires few specialized tools, making it an accessible option for a building projects. Additionally, cob houses are highly customizable, allowing the team to create intricate designs while minimizing the ecological footprint.

Can I stay in a Cob Glamping pod in 2025?

We ae still a little way from our big reveal.  We will be showcasing the New Cob Glamping pods as soon as they are ready.  We will be posting details on our Social Media and in an email newsletter when there is more to tell.  – Stay tuned!
