Age limit The lower age limit depends partly on the individual child but an average is 6 or 7. The child needs to be confident using his/her body and able to listen to and follow instructions. The upper age limit depends on the bravery/foolhardiness of the individual! Suitable clothing You are likely to fall off at least once! Please wear suitable clothing, appropriate to the weather (the more skin covered the less grazes are likely) and trainers or walking boots. You can’t mountainboard in flip flops or wellies! Jewellery should not be worn, and pockets should be emptied of keys, mobile phones etc. First Aid All our senior staff are first aid trained and there will be at least one such member of staff on site at all times. First Aid kits are situated in reception, in the kitchen and in the lift truck. Booking We do advise that all hire and ride customers book before they come, particularly beginners who require instruction. We can generally take small groups at short notice without a booking but we still advise you to call before you come to ensure that we have the equipment available for you. Own boarders and bikers do not need to book. Weather We will do our best to honour your booking whatever the weather but please be aware that this is England, and if the ground gets too soft and slippery then the boards will not run, and safety considerations may arise. This is particularly true early in the season if the ground has not dried after the winter. Showers and light rain won’t frighten us off in the summer, but periods of prolonged heavy rain may cause a problem. Please remember that we have to live with British weather and you should have a contingency plan if the weather’s very wet. We recommend that you call us 12-24 hours before you come if the weather has been bad. Safety equipment All hire and ride customers are provided with knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and helmet. If you have your own, bring them! Own boarders should be equipped with these items as a minimum, and the board should be fitted with a leash or heel straps. Bikers must wear helmets. Pad sets and helmets are usually available for sale in the shop, as are additional items such as body armour and crash shorts. Medical conditions Please let us know of any relevant medical conditions and any medication that you are taking. This will be necessary in the unlikely event that you require medical attention. Disabled Access Unfortunately due to the nature of our site (on a hill!) it is not very suitable for people with limited mobility. There is vehicle access to the campsite and up to the reception area, and fairly level ground around reception, but access to other areas may be difficult. We do welcome people regardless of any disability, registered or otherwise, and will do our best to cater for your needs given appropriate notice. Spectators We welcome all members of the family or group to come and watch your children/friends but we’d prefer it if you had a go yourselves if fit for it! Birthday parties and groups in particular are greatly enlivened if mum/dad/teacher will have a go so the kids can laugh at them! If you can’t, or won’t, give them that opportunity for a good laugh we have an indoor seating area with tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks available, an outdoor seating area and grass area for picnics. Adults are welcome to walk across the site to watch the boarders – but please be aware of mountain boards potentially coming down the hill/over a jump towards you and closely supervise young children. All visitors are welcome to ride on the lift truck - very entertaining for little ones - and use the trampoline: please go to the relevant pages for more information. Dogs Dogs are welcome at Out To Grass but must be kept on leads within the centre. Please DO NOT allow your dog to foul within the centre – people may fall off into that very patch of grass - and please poop-scoop any mess in the campsite, and if possible encourage your dog to do its business well away from the level (mown) area where tents are usually sited. Please be ware that we welcome small children and keep close control of your dog if there is any chance he may present a risk. Pixie If you see a dog off its lead it is most likely Pixie, our border collie. Pixie understands about mountain boards and is very fond of people, so she is allowed into the centre. She will probably pester you to throw things for her and may want to sleep in your tent, but should not cause any other problems and is very good with children. However, as with all dogs please supervise young children and do not allow them to annoy the dog – if they’re nice Pixie will have them fetching sticks in no time!
